1987 began Marie's Florida adventure. Leaving the comfort of 40 below winters on the Mesabi Iron Range area of NE Minnesota to the cool gulf breezes of Charlotte County, Marie was transferred from Hibbing, MN to the Fort Myers Kmart Store, then Englewood, and finally Murdock. In 1998 she joined her husband, Sheldon, with their own company, Charlotte Well Drilling. Before joining Kmart in 1979, Marie ran the second largest Men's Bowling tournament in the State of Minnesota from 1972-1979. Marie was on the State Board for the WIBC and a representative at the national level. Marie was a manager for Kmart from 1979-1998.
Marie had been a precinct clerk in Charlotte County for many years. After Hurricane Charley destroyed many polling locations, Marie was assigned as a SUPER Precinct Clerk presiding over 11 precincts. Marie is currently part of the volunteer RESPITE Disaster team in Charlotte County helping place volunteers in needed areas after a disaster.
Marie became the parent representative on the Charlotte County Schools Calendar Committee, SAC chairperson at Liberty Elementary School, Port Charlotte Middle School, and was a SAC member at PCHS. Marie was appointed to Dr. Gayler's District Committee. Marie became a substitute teacher for a few years to be able to make educated decisions seeing both parent and educator viewpoints.
Marie was instrumental in developing a children's theater program Kids OnStage with the Charlotte Players, the 54 year old community theater group. Marie facilitated the move into their new building coordinating over 350 volunteers through the Give a Day, Get a Disney Day program. Marie was a recipient of the Charlotte Players 2009 David Lee award. She, also, adjudicates for District High School Theater competitions.
In 2007 Marie was named one of the top 20 Community Minded Women in the United States. Marie was, also, nominated as one of the top five real women for a Relly Award from Live with Regis and Kelly. Marie is a Leadership Charlotte Class of 2011 Alumni and is part of the steering committee for Arts and Tourism Day. Marie is a Gulf Coast Leadership Alumni Class of 2013.
Besides co-owning Charlotte Well Drilling, Marie promotes Tourism on the Green Hibiscus Trolley giving Historical and Mural Tours. Marie currently is the Vice President of the Charlotte Players, co-chair for Comedy for a Cause, President of the Port Charlotte Toastmasters CC/CL, Board of Directors Member for the Hospitality Association, Murdock Village Advisory Committee Member, a member of Charlotte County, North Port and Punta Gorda Chambers, Charlotte Desoto Builders Association, Social Media and Marketing Group, Punta Gorda Historical Society, Business Professional Women's and SWFL Women Networking Group.
