General Manager, Charlotte Harbor Event and Conference Center

I have a Bachelors Degree in Public Recreation and a Masters Degree is Sport Administration both from the University of Florida. I first got the “bug” for Public Assembly Facility Management while a student at the University of Florida. I worked at the Stephen C. O’Connell Center on campus while a student and had the opportunity to work in all phases of event operations. Upon graduation, I became the Operations Manager at the Asheville Civic Center for 3 years in Asheville, NC. While there, we hosted numerous concerts, Ringling Brothers & Barnum and Bailey Circus, art and craft shows as well as many performing arts events.

In 1996, I accepted the position of Assistant Director of the Georgia International Convention Center in College Park, GA. My first event there was the Atlanta Olympic Games. Our facility was the practice facility for Weightlifting, Gymnastics, Fencing, Badminton and Handball. We also hosted numerous trade shows, banquets, conventions and special events. In 2001, we began the process of building a new convention center, as our facility was bought out to allow the construction of a fifth runway for Atlanta’s Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport. The new Convention Center opened in 2004. Later that year, I accepted the position of Facility Manager at the Hampton Coliseum in Hampton, Virginia, and later became the Director for the New Hampton Roads Convention Center, where I was involved in the planning and coordination during its construction.

In 2006, I joined the Charlotte County Parks, Recreation and Cultural Resources Department. I was involved in the planning, programming and operation at both the Charlotte Sports Park and now the Charlotte Harbor Event and Conference Center (Event Center). In 2009, I left employment with the County and became the General Manager for the Event Center, working for SMG, the management company hired to manage and operate the Event Center.

I am an active member of the International Association of Venue Managers and a 1999 graduate of Public Assembly Facility Management School. I am an active member of the Punta Gorda Kiwanis Club serving as Club President and currently Club Secretary. I am a member of the Punta Gorda Chamber of Commerce’s Tourism Committee. I am actively involved in both Cub Scout Pack 351 and Boy Scout Troop 351 in the Deep Creek area. I have been married to my wife Karon for 20 years and we have two children, Kyle and Hannah.
